High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS), also referred to as toughened polystyrene, is a modified thermoplastic polymer produced by blending General Purpose Polystyrene (GPPS) with elastomers (typically polybutadiene rubber). This modification addresses the brittleness of pure GPPS, significantly enhancing impact resistance while retaining most of GPPS’s advantageous properties, making HIPS one of the most widely used engineering plastics in industrial and consumer applications.
